ANZSCTS are proud to announce that it will hold an Aortic-Mitral Conclave meeting in conjunction with the AATS in Queenstown New Zealand between 7-8 August 2025.

The conclave is a two-day meeting which will comprise of keynote speakers, symposia, current research and panel discussions. The scientific program is being convened by the world-renowned mitral surgeon – Dr David Adams. The meeting is convened by our Dr Richard (Dick) Bunton who has worked tirelessly, and we thank him as the meeting has now reached a stage where speakers and the program are close to being finalised.

Faculty will include internationally recognised experts from North America, Asia, Europe and Australasia. To date we have confirmed:

  • Dr Ismial El Hamamsy (USA) – Randall B. Griepp Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the System Director of Aortic Surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System.
  • Dr Joseph Coselli (USA) – Vice-Chair of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine etc…
  • Dr Tirone E. David (Canada) – Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto etc…
  • Dr Hiroki Yamaguchi (Japan) – Chairman at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Showa University Koto Toyosu in Japan as well as a Professor at the School of Medicine Showa in Japan.
  • Professor David Muller (Australia) – Professor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Director of Interventional Cardiology Services at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, and a faculty member of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Conference Dinner – The meeting will be preceded by a reception at the Millennium Hotel on Wednesday evening and the conference dinner will be held at Walter Peak station which involves a 45-minute cruise across Lake Wakatipu (1400 feet deep) on the TSS Earnslaw. Launched some 113 years ago the Earnslaw is one of the oldest and largest coal burning steam ships still operating in the world

Trainees – There will be a Resident Competition for best presentation at the meeting as well. The presentation should be 5 minutes in duration with 2 minutes discussion. The presentations may be clinical or research in nature.

The 3 best Aortic (valve or vessel) and the three best Mitral presentations will be chosen from those submitted and will compete for a prize. The prize will be a $2500 award and registration to attend the next Aortic Symposium and Mitral Conclave in New York. A manuscript of your presentation should be sent Dr Bunton, with the final day for submission being 30th June 2025.

Queenstown is located in the Southern part of the South Island of New Zealand. It is a very popular destination and regarded by most international travel publications as being the adventure capital of the world. Early August will see Queenstown in the middle of the ski season with four major ski fields being a close distance away from Queenstown.
