Dear Colleagues
We will be hosting the RACS ASC in Perth this year. Uli Stock, Josh Goldblatt and myself have organised an interesting meeting. Saturday, 2 May, will focus on trauma and transplant surgery (Note: A Trauma and Transplant Surgery program will be issued to you in due course). On Sunday, 3 May, we will host a really good thoracic surgery meeting – refer program attached – with really topical and up to date discussion for modern thoracic surgery. I think especially our thoracic surgery trainees who prepare for their final exams will benefit hugely from this level of discussion.
Our international invited speaker for the thoracic program is Dr Ilies Bouabdallah. Ilies is the Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department at Hôpital Saint-Joseph in Marseille. His practice focuses on minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS and robotic) and thoracic oncology. He has a strong interest in integrated perioperative pathways (ERAS) and preoperative 3D planning to optimize surgical precision and recovery. He is also involved in multidisciplinary and institutional initiatives supporting innovation and quality of care.
Josh and myself met Ilies during our visit to Strasbourg where we learned robotic thoracic surgery and we have thoroughly enjoyed learning from him. He has a modern surgical mind with a great scope of practice who thinks like an oncologist and is really excellent with 3D planning – something that we are very keen to incorporate in our practice at Fiona Stanley Hospital in WA.
Steve Barnett from Melbourne is well known to all of us on a thoracic oncology front and he will further strengthen the thoracic program. We have added some quality local speakers as well with talks by Josh Goldblatt (Fiona Stanley), Miguel Mesa -Guzman (Charles Gairdner) and one of our excellent local thoracic oncologists, Lydia Warburton.
Would you be so kind to circulate this to our society and members with specific mention to our trainees? Will really appreciate.
You are all welcome in Perth in early May.
Best Regards
Agneta Geldenhuys
