Progress Report detailing RACS work in 2016 to address discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment

RACS have provided the Society with a Progress Report detailing their work in 2016 to address discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment (DBSH) in the practice of surgery in Australia and New Zealand.

Highlights of RACS progress against their Building Respect, Improving Patient Safety Action Plan include:

  • New elearning module on DBSH – mandatory for all RACS Fellows, Trainees and IMGs, integrated with RACS’ continuing professional development program and a mandatory CPD 2017 requirement
  • Foundation Skills for Surgical Educators (FSSE) course, to strengthen surgical education – mandatory for surgeons who teach or train SET Trainees or supervise IMGs
  • New Diversity and Inclusion Plan
  • Revised Code of Conduct
  • Updated complaints processes and management, with a new Complaints User Guide
  • Signed agreements with 14 agencies across the public and private health
