The ANZSCTS Database will be releasing a small update to the data collection and data entry web system over the next few weeks to incorporate data elements relevant to the pandemic. Variables will be added to record whether the patient has had a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and, if so, when in relation to the surgery. These new variables will closely align to those added by other leading international cardiac surgery registries, and will allow the Database to monitor the effect of COVID-19 on outcomes over time. There will also be new variables to track public cases that have involved treatment in a private facility.
