Cardiothoracic Surgeon (SMO/MOSS)
(1 year fixed term contract)

Applications are invited for the position of Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Waikato Hospital.

We are seeking a surgeon who has completed their cardiothoracic training and has acquired speciality fellowship or its equivalent. They must be experienced in performing routine adult cardiothoracic procedures independently.

Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and a major tertiary referral centre providing specialised and emergency healthcare for ~ 900,000 people in the Te Manawa Taki region and Waikato area.

The Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit, the second largest in the country, performs over 650 open heart procedures and around 200 thoracic procedures a year with a broad range of surgical pathologies. The department is affiliated with the University of Auckland with a strong interest in research and clinical trials.

The person we are seeking will:

  • Have completed FRACS (Cardiothoracic) or equivalent qualification.
  • Have appropriate skills in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Have demonstrated leadership ability.
